| Born out of the interest of a 7 year old child, Alton Lammott (right), bought his son, Robert (bottom left), his first RC car after he watched a neighbor play with his RC car in the streets of Jones, MI. After crashing his car and parts were needed, Lammot and his son, Robert, went to R & L Hobby in Portage, MI and there is where Lammot's son saw his first indoor RC race track. It was then that his father, Alton, decided to build an outdoor track on their property for their enjoyment. Robert was not the only one to enjoy the R/C track. His sister, Mary (top right) also enjoyed the sport. After attending their first MARS race in Lychfield, Michigan, Alton's father, Walt (center front), asked questions about what it would take to qualify their own track for others to use for MARS races. MARS is Michigan Auto Racing Series. He heard they needed more tracks to race on. Other tracks had been closed due to zoning problems. Newberg township in Cass County Michigan did not have zoning. After investigating the possibilities of qualifying for MARS, Alton in partnership with his father, Walt, was able to make the track a reality and open it to the public joining MARS. Friends and family as well as local businesses supported Lammtt with labor and resources. The first offical race was the MARS event held on Sept. 13, 2003. It was the biggest turn out for the track with 207 racing entries. |
